Hello all, new here and really hoping you all can help me. I am looking for a 2 book series that was published in the 70's or early 80's. The books were written I, such a way as the ending of one led to the other. I remember the covers had a muscular hero wielding a sword that had what to me looked like a winged crosspiece, may have been fire. The hero at the end of the second book is broken on the wheel, but not before he was able to hide a part of the sword. I have been looking for these books now for about thirty years, and if I could get the titles, I would be buying them. I remember there being a barrow white in the adventure as well. Any help would be hugely appreciated. Thanks

If it helps, I think the thing you are referring to is a "barrow-wight", originally from Norse folklore, but more recently generally associated with The Lord of the Rings and earlier JRR Tolkien works, and described as wraith-like creatures that inhabit burial mounds (or 'barrows').
