old SciFi book about lady who conceives by an ?alien? who came earth and child grows up superintelligent

Hello, seeking an old SciFi book which I read many years ago.

I was a teenager at the time and the plot at the beginning was a tad too risqué for my old mum when she opened it, so she threw it away.
That was circa early to mid 1970s.

It opens when a man or alien (scientist type?) visits earth and impregnates a lady somehow, then the resulting child grows up to be super intelligent. Beyond that the plot escapes me after all these years.

Try StarMan, a movie and a novelization by Alan Dean Foster. The StarMan does impregnate an Earth woman, and her child will be the StarMan...

Oh I do wish I could remember more than being dazzled by it as a teen new to SciFi and it's beginning.
