What are the ten movies you are happiest to own (or, if you can't afford them or they are out of print, wish you owned) on DVD/Blu Ray? That is, I'm not asking for some kind of objective list, which films are classic and you think everyone should have in their collection, but rather which ones give you the most joy, you watch most often, you'd be saddest if you lost them, etc. If it's a box set, or a TV show, list it as one of the ten.
Here's my list, in no particular order:
All That Heaven Allows (Douglas Sirk, 1955)
Far From Heaven (Todd Haynes, 2002)
Twin Peaks / Twin Peaks: The Return (David Lynch at al., 1990-1991, 2017)
The Red Shoes (Powell & Pressburger, 1948)
The complete Marx Brothers (actually two different box sets plus a stray last film, but I'll list it as one item. It's my list, dammit!)
The River (Jean Renoir, 1950)
The Barefoot Contessa (Joseph L. Mankiewicz, 1954)
Days of Heaven (Terrence Malick, 1978)
Betty Blue (Jean-Jacques Beineix, 1986)
Playtime (Jacques Tati, 1967)
Honorable mentions: Kubrick, 2001; Scorsese, After Hours; Peckinpah, The Wild Bunch; Hathaway, True Grit; Stevens, Shane; etc etc.
