Hey Chronners.

Recently downloaded Spotify, and thought it would be good to start a thread for people to discuss and recommend some of their favourite Podcasts of any genre.

I've been listening to three really good ones Hardcore History - a belter of a history podcast, highly recommend for history buff.

Hello from the magic tavern. A fantasy story podcast about a man who has fallen through a right into the magical land of Foon, and is now broadcasting a podcast from the local tavern called the Vermilion Minotaur. This is hilarious and one of my favourites.

Gossipmongers. A comedy show where people send in ridiculous rumours from when they were growing up. Really funny but quite rude. Not for those who are faint hearted or don't enjoy "blue" humour.

Anyone here like Podcasts? What ones would you recommend?

Cheers.

I love podcasts! I totally keep up with about 4 of them and have 12 in my feed.

In my feed:
Duolingo Spanish Podcast --- (I keep trying to see if I've enough Spanish now to follow the story. So far no go.)
Rough Translation
The Indicator
Throughline
White Lies
This American Life
Sorry, Not Sorry
Up First
Hidden Brain
Post Reports
Invisibilia
The Daily

My Favorites:
Hidden Brain: This is a podcast which uses science and storytelling to reveal the unconscious patterns that drive human behavior. For example in today's podcast the role of anger and outrage is examined. There is science to back up the claim that anger and outrage stimulates the pleasure centers of the brain. It also looked at how anger was an important player in hunter gather societies, and how it has become much more toxic in the time of Twitter and Instagram. *** Highly recommended.
Invisibilia: Takes a look at the unseen forces that control human behavior and shape our ideas, beliefs, and assumptions. One of my favorite episodes was broadcast a couple of weeks ago entitled "The End of Empathy." And it outlined how empathy has come to be seen by many in our society as a significant weakness. ***Highly recommended.
White Lies: This is a completed podcast. It tells the story of Rev James Reeb who was murdered in Selma Alabama in 1965, and how no one was convicted of the crimes for over 40 years in spite of the identity of the murders being known to many of the residents. It is a teeth gnashing review and condemnation of the Jim Crow south told by two young? men from Alabama. *** Recommended -- if you can tolerate a story of blatant racism.
Rough Translation: This is a podcast looks at how things are viewed and/or done in the world outside the U.S. and the answers and the problems that they have found. Today's episode was entitled "Mom in translation." It was the story of an American military wife whose child has come to believe that he fits in best in Japanese society, and tells of how both he and she have changed over the course of a couple of years. (The boy was 6 when he first went to Japan and is 9 at the time the podcast was recorded.) ***Highly Recommended

Many many thanks, Parson. They all sound fantastic and I'll be downloading them tonight. I'm looking forward to Hidden Brain and Invisibillia

There are a few SF short story podcasts I often listen to:
Escape Pod, Lightspeed magazine and Clarkesworld magazine. The Drabblecast also has short fiction, very short fiction and micro fiction, and occasionally dramas, which are sf/horror/weird. Quality of stories is variable in each of these, but there is very often some very good stuff.
Escape Pod also has sister podcasts Pseudopod (horror) Podcastle (fantasy) and Cast of Wonders (YA) and announce that they are a "pro-payin' market" - always makes me think of Hank Hill.
The Drabblecast is quirky, the show presenter/narrator/producer?, Norm Sherman, is "a hoot".
Ongoing series are another matter, I don't want to post anything too negative here! "White Vault" has been ok as far as I've listened, kind of "Alien meets The Thing at the Mountains of Madness"

I must say I think "Hello From The Magic Tavern" is silly, smutty and puerile. What's not to like!

I don't know if they're on Spotify, but the BBC have loads of great podcasts. My favourites include 30 Animals That Made Us Smarter, Crowd Science and some excellent episodes of The Documentary Podcast. That Peter Crouch Podcast is a funny and insightful look into the life of a professional footballer. I'm not always sure what's originally a radio programme, but many of those are made available for download, including Desert Island Discs.

The Adam Buxton Podcast has some very enjoyable interviews.

Today, I've downloaded the Pop Unmuted and Switched on Pop podcasts. They analyse music from all eras (classical was pop once!).

As if I didn't have enough podcasts to listen to already, I'll be downloading more (especially Duolingo Spanish Podcast) after reading this thread. I only really started listening to podcasts as a result of my car stereo getting stolen when my car was broken into...though now I listen to podcasts less as I don't have a car.
