I'm a traditionalist and consider 8 March 1978 as the birthday of HHGTTG but I'll gladly wave my towel. That is until I see a Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal.

I, too, am somewhat of a HHGTTG snob, since I listened to the original broadcast when first aired. However, the books come second, the TV series a distant third, and the film, well... let's call it a non-starter. (OK, it had some good bits)

I’m with you, Stephen, the radio series is definitely the best version, although I do have a soft spot for the TV series, which introduced me to the whole thing. From there, I went on to the book then the Radio Drama. I didn't mind the movie, but it wasn’t great.
