Looking for sci-fi novel, 1st book I read in 70's that got me hooked. It was from the pulp era, 40's or 50's? Man discovers the power of his mind can create a spaceship from nothing, and create armor for it from concentrated photons. I believe he ended up in space somehow with some of his college friends, and the excitement starts. I think it was written by one of the masters of sci-fi when he was just starting out.

Doesnt sound like Clarke, Asimov, or Heinlein, thoughgh my seive is not reliable. I dont think it sounds like Simak. Possibly a van Vogt ( he was a bit random and off the wall). Not Vance. Of course that leaves dozens of other candidates.

Sounds like the Null A series by AE Van Vogt - Players perhaps.

Hi,

It doesn't fit well but the bit about the power of the mind etc, reminded me of the lensmen series by Doc Smith, while the concentrated photons sounds a bit like the skylark series.

Cheers, Greg.

Galaxy Primes by EE Doc Smith maybe?
That was about mental powers and a ship IIRC (last time I read it was about 45 years ago so it's hard to remember)
