Thanks Danny!

Well I've made a start on book two 'Blood Under Water' tonight - Christmas Eve Eve - such is my life nowadays.

I would have started it sooner but I've been busy proof-reading two books for another Chronner, and I gotta have some sci fi with spaceships 'n' aliens as well!

The Renaissance setting of this fantasy novel made for a fresh and interesting backdrop, and there's a rich and detailed sense of culture which made the world and story really come alive. Sometimes I would have liked to have seen the pace slowed a little to spend more time on the deeper complexities of the characters. Overall, though, an enjoyable read, and I'd be happy to read the rest of the series.

Thanks Brian! I'm not sure how I missed this.

I wonder if part of the pacing comes from trying to write a crime story in a fantasy setting. I remember that one of my main issues with The Lies of Locke Lamora was the periodic flashbacks, which I felt really slowed it down. I'm currently working on the third book, which promises to be a bit more epic.
