Discounting KDP books - before or after Christmas?

Hi guys,

What with Christmas coming, I thought I might discount the fantasy novels that I've published on Kindle. I wondered if it would be best to run the discounted period before Christmas, when people are presumably buying for others, or after Christmas, when hopefully people will have new devices that they want to fill up with books.

Has anyone tried this, and did either work well?

Thanks,

Toby.

IMO from a marketing perspective it makes more sense after Christmas - before Christmas, people are thinking of buying for others and budgeting for that. However, you have people getting Kindles as gifts at Christmas looking for something to buy for it - and, oh! bargain books! Plus people already with Kindles perhaps have money left over or gifted by which they can treat themselves to a few 99p bargains.

My own biggest buying period for books is between Christmas and New Year - treating myself from my wishlist using gift money, plus checking for ebook deals to add on top.
