I read a book (or trilogy) in the mood to late 90s about contemporary vampires leading normal lives. They don't hunt or kill but still need blood. There are a group of vampires who serve as a blood cartel controlling access to blood for those who want to live a normal life.

It was written by a female author. The story too place in Texas. The protagonist was female.

Any ideas

Dead Until Dark by Charlaine Harris? the second book is "Living Dead in Dallas"
but that wasn't until 2001... so published too late to be it?

Not Fevre Dream.

It sounds a lot like Rachel Caine's Morganville Vampire series but first one was published 2006 .
@nixie I thought it may be Morganville Vampires, but the publication date makes that doubtful, I checked it out from the library in an entirely different city, read it on the bus to work at a job from long ago.

In reading the reviews and synopsis it is possible, I will find one and read it. I don't recall it being a YA either.

Maybe I am getting old and mixing up my memories.

Thanks

@Tarsend in reading the reviews, doesn't sound right, but looks entertaining, maybe I will give it a try.
