(Found) Another poor soul searching for a title

[font=&quot]I am having a hard time remembering the title of a book I read back in the early '80s. I was hoping that someone could help me out with this.


I remember that the "mind" of the main character had been downloaded into his ships computer before he died. There was an alien race that traveled the universe in large "solar sail" ships. There was another alien race that was either hiding or trapped in a black hole. I can’t remember if they were the ultimate bad guys or the ones hiding from the ultimate bad guys.

I think this was a second or third book in a series.


I remember enjoying the story when I was young and wanted to recommend it to my daughter. Any help offered would be appreciated.[/font]

Check these ones :
Frederic Polh serie revolving aroung the Heechees : Gateway, Beyond the blue horizon event, heeches rendezvous and Annals of the Heechees. Not sure about the solar sail ships but it could be.
Even if it's not the good serie, it's a very reccomendable one.
