Looking for an intriguing short story possibly from Omni Magazine in the mid-90s

Hello — I’m haunted by a short story I read in some kind of omnibus, possibly Omni Mag, concerning a futuristic astronaut with Indian ancestry who was somehow exploring or stuck in a massive spaceship that had organic elements and the plot reveals that the ship itself had actually been his father, at some point in the past. If it rings a bell, would be much obliged to be pointed in the right direction.
