Survivors of sun anomaly

Many years ago I read a story about humanity being destroyed by some anomaly of the sun, but the only survivors were people committing suicide when this happened. Kind of _last man in the world_ type of story. I'd enormously appreciate reading this story ahain. Many thanks to those amazingly knowledgeable readers who might remember the story!

Does not quite meet your description (the sun anomaly is what causes people to suicide), but I would say it's All Fools Day by Edmund Cooper.

It sounds something like the movie version of The Quiet Earth. Perhaps not your story, as the 1981 novel seems to be significantly different.

This is probably not it, but it sounds a little like Asimov's short story, Nightfall. Not just one sun, but many (I am thinking maybe there were 6 suns in this system?). The planets orbit is so convoluted, that it only experiences nightfall once every 10,000 years. Just enough time for civilization to rise. Then, when night falls, and everyone sees all the stars, they can't handle it, and civilization collapses (people committing suicide?).
