More likely, it was a badly written first novel, but now that he's matured into a best-selling writer the publishers have found a marketing opportunity - and a marketing angle to re-pitch it at a public that is buying up pandemic books at the moment.
 
Just rereading Day if the Triffids which is kind of pandemic.
Interesting how the language now feels dated. When I read it as a boy it didn't. I guess there's a message there somewhere :(
 
Yeah, it's not something that interests me.
