  • Novel. I read 2 books in the series, but there could have been a third.
  • I read the book ~2012 in English and it was not new at that time, but I do not know the publication year.
  • Plot of book #1: FBI (or something like it) was investigating suspicious disappearances of whole communities. I think there may have been a cult involved, maybe an illness/epidemic they were saying they could cure if followers went with them? I have distinct memory of a scene that took place in an abandoned airport where everyone’s belongings were left and it seems they were teleported to somewhere with warmer weather (South America?)
  • Plot of book #2: Monks were transcribing books that had predictions for the future in them. I have memory of a pale red-headed monk who I think was maybe nonverbal? I can’t remember exactly how the plots were related but I remember feeling like the tone/plot of the books were very different despite being in the same series.
  • Setting – Earth, not sure of the timeline
  • Target audience/age group – adult
  • This book is not A Canticle for Leibowitz

Hi,

I used this only the other day on a hunt! There's no monks in it that I recall, but mass disappearances sounds a bit like Phantoms by Koontz.

Cheers, Greg.

Thanks for the suggestion! Not it, but something else for me to read!
