Scifi book from late 1980s

Read a scifi young adult book in the late 80s. Teens in a space colony steal a ship and find a planet has plants and stuff but seemingly no life. They find a tower which is the only sign of life and in that tower the main character who I believe was a girl ended up finding her biological mother. That's all I can remember and it's been driving me crazy for about a decade now.
