Come Up With Your Own Kenning(s)

Fool's Confessional (the Internet)
is that a kenning? Or just a smartarsery?
Star-broth is good.
I scanned the Wikipedia article, what caught my eye were the ones that called a soldier a crow's breakfast or some such. Very scathing!

That's a great kenning! Interesting to think about what we might call things if the language hadn't been altered.

I really like kill enemies - feed the eagle, blood - battle sweat, death - sleep of the sword, raven - swan of blood, and war - weather of weapons. I'll make a few.

River - Water road, fish road
Chainmail - Shirt of steel
Naiad - Water girl
Dryad - Forest girl
Spear - [insert war god(ess) here]'s toothpick
Pen/pencil - Paper sword

I was going to say it’s a very Shakespearean tradition and the wiki page predates that with Old English (I assume we’re talking Chaucer by Old English).

I find myself making less romantic ones up to impart a sense of otherness whilst retaining verisimilitude. I call lepers (pl) ‘lepra’ in my first book for example.

Thigh-battener = crisps
Flea highway = dog park.
Drone attack = Trump speech
Failure to launch = Elon Musk's baby's "name" trying to pass California naming laws
Treacle bung-up = Disney Film

I think Chaucer wrote in Middle English. Old English, a.k.a. Anglo-Saxon, might as well be an elfish language when heard by modern ears.
