ok bear with me!, i am sure this novel was called 'the hunter' or 'hunters', i read it long ago, but i cannot track it down, i guess it is long out of print. it is set in an American desert where aliens hunt the locals for sport. they appear to people as the people would want to see them, a young spiderman fan sees someone dressed as spiderman. old people see them as kindly elderly people. they are told to gather in an area, and then are hunted!. really good novel as i remember. i read it circa 1980. Anyone shed some light on this please, desperate to get hold of it again.
