Sci Fi by a Canon?

I remember a book from the late 80s early 90s about an alien visiting England. the first part of the book is about his struggle on earth from his pov, the second part was, I believe the struggle of his nurse when she went home with him to his planet. Now I am sure it was by Canon Collins of CND fame but I can find no trace of a sci-fi novel by him.

Was there any reason why he needed a nurse?

After he was found by the authorities he was kept on a base and she was part of the medical staff monitoring him.

Ah right, I thought he was maybe too weak in our gravity or else was an alien slug from the waist down or something like that
