I am facing a question concerning a contemporary science-fiction character.
The description is vague enough, but still I can't find any novel that would meet all criteria. Any help appreciated.

Here is what I know:
- Main character in several novels;
- Ambivalent morals - partly good, partly bad;
- Also appears in graphic novels, as a secondary domain;
- No movie was made with this hero;
- The character is male;
- He is (or at least originally was - I'm not sure here) Asian;
- However the author is not Asian;
- The author is male, currently over 50 years of age;
- The books were written in English, after year 2000;
- Action takes place, at least partly, beyond Earth.

TIA.

The Takeshi Kovacs books by Richard K Morgan would seem to fit all your criteria. Only thing I'm not sure on is the graphic novel, apparently there is one but I've not seen or read it.

All I can think of that matches that fully (except for author nationality) is anime/manga inspired, yet americanized. Futuristic, serialized several graphic novels. Techno ninja semi good semi bad.

- Cowboy Bebop character name: Spike Spiegel

Sorry if that match is too pop cultured.

Is the main protagonist Asian?
It's a series I'm unfamiliar with
here you go:
What happens when the apocalypse arrives, not via nuclear weapons or a comet but as Levels and monsters? What if you were camping in the Yukon when the world ended?

All John wanted to do was get away from his life in Kluane National Park for a weekend. Hike, camp and chill. Instead, the world comes to an end in a series of blue boxes. Animals start evolving, monsters start spawning and he has a character sheet and physics defying skills. Now, he has to survive the apocalypse, get back to civilisation and not lose his mind.

The System has arrived and with it, aliens, monsters and a reality that draws upon past legends and game-like reality. John will need to find new friends, deal with his ex and the slavering monsters that keep popping up.

Life in the North is Book 1 of the System Apocalypse, a LitRPG Apocalypse series that combines modern day life, science fiction and fantasy elements along with game mechanics.

This series contains elements of games like level ups, experience, enchanted materials, a sarcastic spirit, mecha, a beguiling dark elf, monsters, minotaurs, a fiery red head and a semi-realistic view on violence and its effects. Does not include harems.

Everyone - I truly appreciate your interest, suggestions and discussion.
Turned out that Takeshi Kovacs was the right answer.
Thank you very much for your time and help.
