Hi all,

I am looking for a short story I read many years ago and cannot find its title despite my efforts. Cannot even remember if I read it in English or translated in my native language
On a very small planet (or asteroid) a man was chased by a 'monster' which proved to be the planet's god and if memory serves it was a bear. The man was chased around this planet and was trying to run around it in order to reach the place where his weapon was.

I would appreciate very much any hints on what that story could be

It's a R.A. Lafferty I think

"Snuffles" by R.A. Lafferty

It's described here:

There's nothing quite like "a Lafferty".

Here are the various editions where you can find it

thank you but that's not it. The one I am looking for is about just one man chased around on a planet by that monster or bear. No other persons involved

Many thanks for getting back so promptly.

Hmm! I wonder what it is....

I also remember that in the end the creature was asking the man "haven't you yet realized who I am?" or something to this effect

There are some strong similarities with "Snuffles", if you will humour me....

I know in "Snuffles" it's a man and a woman being chased round the small planet, not just a single man, but they are trying to get back to base ahead of the bear to get their weapons by going round the miniature planet and that fits your description.

This also fits.....
Here's the bear talking in the head of the man near the end of the story: "You insult me that you do not recognise my identity. When Hardy said that it was the Bear who had made the world, he had begun to guess who I was. I am the creator and I made the world."
This seems very similar.

Here's a link to the story:

These links to the text of google books can disappear after too many viewings - if you need to find it, just google lafferty snuffles and then click on "Nine Hundred Grandmothers - Page 143 - Google Books Result"
