A place for gamers to vent about the gripes that, in the grand scheme of life aren’t actually a big deal, but in the middle of gaming are literally the worst, most frustrating things ever in the world ever.

So here is a safe space to let them out.

Mine is what triggered the idea for this thread: Tanks fighting for aggro. I’m back on Final Fantasy 14 at the moment, an MMO, but just dipping into it lightly so mainly just doing eight person trials cos they’re fun. My main class is a tank so I know how to play them, but I do trials as DPS. So while I’m doing my thing, I’m shaking my head sadly at two tanks both with their aggro stances on, confusing the boss and making it turn back and forth between them. Mostly just annoying, but can be dangerous if the boss has mega-damage cone attacks. But mainly it just makes me think...when did the concept of Main Tank and Off Tank get lost?!

That I can still remember the answers to security questions on games I haven't play in...25 years.

Been playing some old abandonware games, mainly the original Civilisation, and I still know all of the answers to the security questions.

Damn you Sid Meier, why did you create a game that has lodged itself so firmly in my mind that I still know what I need for Labour Union but can't remember how many cups of coffee I've had today?

The problem with every 4X game I’ve come across is that they start off really well but then, in the late game it becomes nothing but a chore. By this point in the game, victory or defeat come into view (depending on your performance) and there’s little or nothing that can be done at that point in the game to overturn that outcome. I know this is simply a limitation of the AI but it still annoys me. A similar point can be made for many CRPGs. It usually ends with some kind of boss figure that often just doesn’t fit in with the general feel of the rest of the game.

All of the above is the reason I often work through about three quarters of a game and then just stop playing and go look for something else instead.

I agree wholeheartedly on 4x end-game. I really enjoy the opening of them, the exploration, grabbing strategic territory, building my cities and forces. Then comes the slog, I've won (or in rare cases lost) and it just takes sooooo long.

It's the same for most games though, the initial challenge is the funnest bit, then you get bogged down by more and more micromanagement and that slow sameness that creeps in until you're operating entirely on automatic.

My pet peeve is not having modding support for games though. Mods make them so much better and last for so much longer, not having it just feels like a way to sell more DLCs or force the player into playing a specific way - fine for massive multiplayer games, but not for the rest.

Foxbat, ha, I know that feeling.

Due to a near perfect starting position in a recent game of Civ VI, my Romans were in a great place. I ended up with a Diplomatic victory, but Science was quite close (I was a few light years out).

Managed to avoid the micromanaging hell by being light on both military and religious endeavours, and having multiple cities build spaceports (that was for victory conditions, but ended up having the great side-effect of minimising my workload).

My pet hate is hard drive sizes. Really bad for the PS3, but for the PS4 I'm also at the stage of having to fiddle with stuff whenever I get a new game. There are certain things that won't ever be deleted (Witcher 3) but that limits space even more.

One of the first things I do when installing any new game is turn the damn music off. I hate music playing when I’m trying to decide who shall live and who shall die as I strive to conquer the universe.

Ha, I usually end up muting most games or at the least doing what you suggest and turning off the music.

Admittedly since I lost my second monitor to an unfortunate and *cough*TOTALLY NOT MY FAULT *cough* overheating issue I've been doing it less as I can no longer chill in a game with a show on to the side.
