That is the only scene i remember from this book/short story, and obviously it's pretty vivid. All I can vaguely recall is this family or group of humans trying to escape something (killer robots) and they jump into a laundry/trash/etc., chute. Seems like a pregnant lady was the last to get into the chute but as she did, one of the robots grabs her and kills her, then releases her body to fall down the chute where the others are waiting.
That's all i remember. I dont' recall if this was a short story in a sci-fi magazine or larger collection, and i can't find any pre-'84 novel with that type of incident (doesn't mean it isn't there).
