A classic little British documentary. Nostalgia and probably the poshest British accent you will ever hear.
And yet - there is that 10% creepy vibe that makes you think of the ordered society of "the village" in The Prisoner.

I loved it! Thank you for supplying this film.

Bookmobiles like this one may have brought The Lord of the Rings to farflung locations. It sounds like the librarian would have expected readers to get The Hobbit and the Narnian books from their schools, though.

In the early 70s my father was very ill and an avid book reader. He couldn't drive to his local library so was out of books until someone told my mother about the mobile library that visited the next village over. Week after week, I can remember walking the 2-3 miles to the mobile library with my mother to pick up books she thought he would like or with a list he'd give her to look for. There was never much of a choice but it was something to read and may have been a very subtle ploy to get my father fit and active.

Shropshire Libraries still has one visiting the small villages around the county.

Photo taken at a Shropshire Libraries event in Shrewsbury in 2017.
