Luckily, I don't have to run faster than the jaguar just faster than the tortoise.

Nah, it's more of a personal thing. Worst girlfriend I ever had was into that stuff. Even flipped out on me when I told her I wasn't about it, though she had ZERO ISSUE with ragging on things I liked, and I kept cool about it. Since then, I've been put of by the genre.

Stans. Count on them to ruin genres for outsiders.

I agree, you should pay the other stories no mind. Write what you feel.

I've come to appreciate the process I go through..
(1) Horror at genre or theme choice
(2) Maybe I won't come up with anything this month. Ah well, I've had a good run.
(3) I come up with a line that interests me.
(4) I get some more lines to bulk it out.
(5) I feel safe enough with what I've written to have a quick look at those stories already posted.
(6) The story starts to preoccupy me and I post it to get it out of my head.
(7) I find myself looking forward to the next 75 word challenge.
