This is a good solid finish to the trilogy, however I didn’t really feel that either of the second and third books really lived up to the promise of the first and the final ending felt a bit rushed and unconvincing. A couple of important plot twists were effective when first used but felt sloppy when recycled with minor changes later. Ultimately a felt somewhat let down and sadly I’ve had this before with Scalzi; he starts a series of books well, as with Old Man’s War, but then seems to run out of steam and the later books seem to diminish. I never did finish the final books of Old Man’s War, made worse by being serialised in my view; even when published as a single volume they still felt a series of short stories.
