Is the writing of Lovecraft better than his contemporaries?

I seem to be on a roll with Howard today, so here is my question.. Lovecraft is considered the father of the Mythos and rightly so but is he the best?. Do you prefer his work to say Clark Ashton Smith for example, Or even Charles Stross`s Laundry files?.. That includes Comics and graphic novels, for example Neonomicon would be a prime example their?... and a final example, anyone read Zenith by Grant Morrison?
