I watched the before & after discussions of 4 horror films that were on TCM last night, in which the TCM guy discusses the films with David J. Skal, who wrote a book on horror films.
So, they talk about producer Val Lewton & director William Castle; but the roles they play in the making of the films are more than a bit different. Yet, Lewton, the producer is more associated with films such as CAT PEOPLE than are the guys who actually directed them. I recall how disappointed Castle was that he was going to produce rather than direct Rosemary's Baby. I am more than a bit fuzzy on the difference between P & D!?
