Looking for a story: Telephone network becomes conscious and falls in love (pre-internet, pre-skynet, when ATT ruled the world)

Hi: I am looking for a story: A man receives a lot of attention from the telephone, and it turns out that the system has fallen in love with him. It ends when the saviors storm into his apartment, where he has sex with a projection with laser from a network-controlled satellite: The story ends: They see a "race between an orgasm and a deadly sunburn.." or something very similar...

Sounds like the plot for the 2013 movie Her starring Joaquin Phoenix. Without the holosex though.
