Remember those computer runs simulating the formation of planetary systems that produced a line of planets in a graph?
Now do it yourself!
Might make interesting backgrounds for your stories.
Note: Uses the old algorithm so does not tend to produce things like epistellar jovians.

This was fun--spent half a day playing.

It might be of use to me for reference. My series has a minimum of 12 far flung colonies(too far to identify the star formations from one to another).
This is giving me food for thought as to how each of those might be configured and still be inhabitable
 
Gosh, tinkerdan, you're even more obsessive than me! I just go there five or ten minutes once or twice a month (although that may have accumulated more time than you by now).
