DISCUSSION THREAD -- November 2020 75-word Writing Challenge

My original Long List was practically every story! There were just way too many groovy stories. Far out, man! But I forced myself to whittle down the list to a shorter Long List, then a still shorter Short List and finally, after much consideration, a personal ***Favorite***. Congratulations to all for accepting and delivering on such a cool challenge.

nowheresville - Victoria Silverwolf
DUDE – Ashleyne

Astrid - Astro Pen
The End Credits - Bren G
Hospital Ward 1957 – Parson
Keeping It Real – Provincial

Beam Me Up, Scotty - Peter V
It don't mean a thing, (if it ain't got that bling) – chrispenycate
Smile @ Infinity – Daysman
**** One Last Wave - BT Jones ****
Wipeout - paranoid marvin
The Elevator - Wayne Mack
Hog Roast – AnyaKimlin
Blue Meanie Breakfast – Hugh
Dude, Where's My Starship? - M. Robert Gibson
The Ultimate Wave – scarpelius

Thanks for the mention, TEiN. Always unexpected and appreciated.

Many thanks, @johnnyjet. Wasn't expecting that. Reading through the stories yesterday, I thought I'd got the tone all wrong; too somber.

So many outta sight stories this month! I eventually narrowed it down to my five faves, then my one vote. Thanks to everyone for the great reads through the month, and thanks to Victoria and Parson for the reviews.

nowheresville - @Victoria Silverwolf - utterly perfect style for this challenge, tres cool
Smile @ Infinity - @Daysman - neat writing and not a word wasted (as opposed to the characters, ha)
Peace Out - @Marvin - big story in a wee space, loved the concept and execution
To Bodaciously Go... - @mosaix - cleverly told through dialogue, topped off by a groovy title
Dude, Where's My Starship - @M. Robert Gibson - good fun, this one had me at Beatlegeuses

I knew the first time I saw it, that @Parson's story would be tough to beat. Got my vote. Very clever! That dog gave us a real treat.

Congratulations to everyone who entered this one. Boy that was a tough Challenge. Possibly the hardest so far as I really had no idea about hippies and surfer dudes other than Bill , Ted an Neil from The Young Ones; and what was a beatnik? Still it's (yet again) brought out the best in people. And what is a Challenge if it isn't challnging?

Droflet and Hugh both had great entries that made me laugh, but MikeAnderson gets my vote; for some reason I could imagine an episode of Futurama where Kissinger and Nixon's heads are re-enacting your storyline.

Interesting group of stories. If we look at what we wrote you might think that the 50's thru the 70's were all drugs and Rock n' Roll if you were a teenager. Okay, right, maybe a lot of truth there. --- Anyway I loved a lot of the musical references. My favorite had to be the call out to C. W. McCall, who'd a thought he had a place with Jefferson Airplane and Buddy Holly and more than a few others.

These stories made my Contenders List:

Nowheresville by @Victoria Silverwolf for a wonderful mashup of time travel and hip lingo. The title was too good not to get a mention!

Beam Me up, Scotty by @Peter V because I could easily imagine an original Star Trek episode ending like this.

Yugoslavia 1968 by @Danny McG because it made me laugh. It was a gas!

One Last Wave by @BT Jones for a sweet story with an ending I did not see coming, but was wonderfully appropriate.

Wipeout by @paranoid marvin for a poem that captured the California surf culture. I loved Jan and Dean and the Beach Boys.

Hog Roast by @AnyaKimlin for marrying C.W. McCall, C.B. slang, and horror all in 75 words.

In the end I voted for Wipeout by Paranoid Marvin. I thought it caught the essence of the 60's better than the rest.

This was a difficult challenge, as evidenced by the low number of entries. Voting is also a tough chore.

I had to go with three stories that had serious points to make beneath the slang and nostalgia.

Short List:

"Peace Out" by Marvin

"Today, Today" by Droflet

VOTE:

"The Elevator" by Wayne Mack
