DISCUSSION THREAD -- November 2020 75-word Writing Challenge

Even though distracted by an altogether more time-consuming (but less watery) form of surfing, the Ursa Jury managed to get itself in gear for long enough to compile the following, and vote accordingly.

The stories are in posting order within the categories:

Honourable Mentions:
  • Beam Me up, Scotty by Peter V
  • Smile @ Infinity by Daysman
  • The Elevator by Wayne Mack
  • Flight of Fancy by Perpetual Man

Runners Up:
  • The End Credits by Bren G
  • Keeping it real. by Provincial
  • To Bodaciously Go… by mosaix

Winner:
  • Wipeout by paranoid marvin

Congrats @Parson! Such an delightful awful pun that I wished to have thought of it myself.

I missed the mark this month trying to be a bit different with my alternative history of counter culture UK public school surfer dude. I suspect a few of the references didn't quite catch. I blame it all on seeing the word Coddiwompling (definition - 'to travel in a purposeful manner towards a vague destination') which I just had to use.

Wet Bob is public school slang for a schoolboy who goes for rowing rather than cricket and Promenade Whippersnappers is my alternative history take on a UK version of the Beach Boys. Lagavulin 16 is a single malt Scotch whiskey from the Isle of Islay in Scotland, as is Saligo ‘Psycho’ Bay’, a well known surfing beach. Finally, 'Duddies' or 'Duddie' is a Scottish term and has been suggested to be where the American term 'Dude' comes from - The Scotsman.

I think next month I'll go with a bad pun Dark Lord tale, more my style :p

Coddiwompling would be a good theme for the next 75 worder, though I suppose you could argue that it was the theme of this one, too.

Many many CONGRATULATIONS @Parson !

One of the most clear-cut winners that I remember.

And for trivia enthusiasts re Blue Meanies - may or may not be general knowledge - this species of psilocybin mushroom gets its name because the stems turn blue when picked/broken. Very popular in omelettes in beach cafes at one time and probably still are....
