(Found) time travel story about kids that traveled back in time and inhabited the bodies of knights. read in 1995ish

Hello looking for the name of a book. old kids book but I read it in school in 6th grade. Around 1995. The story was about kids time traveling to the medieval times. Big part of it was they ended up inhabiting the bodies of knights, Quantum leap style time travel. Don't remember much about the overall plot. I do remember an instance of one character dunking his whole arm into a pot of stew or a pie. Also in the middle of the story something went wrong and one character went from inhabiting a knight to inhabiting a horse. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you
