I recently watched an Urban Myths* episode in which Samuel Beckett befriends the young Andre the Giant

The subplot was that Beckett was suffering from writer's block, but in one scene he taped something** to his typewriter which read:

Dance First. Think Later.

My interpretation of this, given the context, is, when writing, to just let the words flow and don't worry about revising.
In other words: Write first. Edit later.

So now I'm wondering if anyone else knows of any writing related quotes that may, or may not, be inspirational, insightful or anything else -ful

* "Urban Myths" Samuel Beckett and Andre the Giant (TV Episode 2017) - IMDb

** The full quote is: “Dance first. Think later. It's the natural order.”

Just like advice on writing in general--list like this have been done so well before that it is best just to bookmark the lists rather than make your own.

Happy 1000th and may there be many more.

Actually, the way I used to approach a lot of scenes, was to listen to music appropriate to the emotion or action of the scene (or both) and walk or dance around. It got the blood flowing to my brain, I think, as well as stirring up the feelings I wanted, and eventually I would sit down and write. As I recall, it was pretty effective. I don't do it any more because I don't have the room/privacy ... and likely not the energy, either.
