You're asking because you know it's not the most famous story of that theme, "Arena" by Fredric Brown, right?

Funny thing about Arena...it's the one time I saw the video adaption of a printed story improve on the original (IMHO).
Fredrick Brown's alien was utterly malevolent, was killed by the human, and it's whole fleet (and presumably species) destroyed.
Kirk spared the Gorn, and admitted the Federation may have been as much at fault.
