Looking for book name: 3 smart college friends. One becomes president of USA. Others become extremely wealthy with a medical breakthrough. Money intended to fund an idea they developed in college.

The best I and a friend can piece together is this:

The three friends are two boys and one girl- each ultra smart attend an MIT/Harvard ish school. They come up with an exceptional idea that will move humanity forward, but will take an extraordinary amount of money to implement. One guy (idealist) ultimately becomes president. The others try to fund the idea by becoming fabulously wealthy implementing a global medical breakthrough. I think the wealthy guy ends up in a confrontation with the idealist/president.
