Sci Fi book about random people being thrust into a new world Via pods

I (Hannahs Husband) currently have Covid and instead of watching TV a day want to try and teat myself with reading books.

Currently reading 1984 because I cheated I school and never read it. ( I was the cool kid who didnt like books, as you can see it helped so much with grammar) There was one book I remember reading cover to cover that my mom boy freind gave to me.

It was set in a new world and for some reason random people were picked and I beleive sent down in pods. They all must figure out first why they are there, how to survive and how to interact.
