Connection between The Mandalorian and Boba Fett?

The Mandalorian obviously looks a lot like Boba Fett - his armor is styled in the same way, especially the helmet, but also with his jetpack, missile targeting, and missile launcher. We've also see in one episode the Mandalorian actually found Boba Fett's armor and claimed it as Mandalorian.

However, in another thread here it was stated that Boba Fett wasn't a Mandalorian.

So, without too much backstory, why is Boba Fett wearing armor that looks like Mandalorian armor if he isn't a Mandalorian?

It will come up in the second season, just be patient. But if you need to know now, Boba's dad fought for the Mandalore back in the day when the Mandolore the great were leading them in a war against the Jedi. Jango Fett was granted the armour after the dust had settled and Boba inherited it and then lost it again after he was thrown in the Sarlacc pit.
