Is anyone reading the new Marvel Conan books, in my opinion, they are awesome and really capture the character well!

I started, but dropped them all after three issues. I thought they were dreadful with no relation to Howard's Conan. The scripts were weak and the artwork awful. I haven't missed them at all. I much prefer the original Savage Sword run with the oversize pages and black and white artwork. The early Dark Horse series was pretty good as well. I didn't even bother with the new Marvel crossover stuff.

I am suprised to hear that, what exactly do you think is wrong with the character. I felt like it did capture the character well, as well as my friend. Both of us own all the hardcovers for the original Conan by Robert E Howard. I also liked Marvels early stuff to from the 70's. I am curious if you actually read his solo book or the stuff where they had him crossing over with Marvel characters, because the crossover stuff is not as good.

I read the first three issues of Conan, which I thought were bad, and the first three Savage Swords, which were worse. Conan's character felt restrained. I think they were afraid to write him as Howard did in his time for fear of coming across wrong. The artwork was too stylised for me as well. When I saw how the Belit series was being drawn I cancelled my pull order before it was even published.

I can't say how the series has progressed because I haven't looked at it since issue 3. My only real regret is that I didn't get to finish the Hocking and Oden stories. They were supposed to have been published separately by now but no word on when that might happen.

Rezman, there really aren't any "original hardcovers" of Conan. Everything Howard wrote was in magazines; Conan was principally in Amazing Stories, I think.

Many of stories his were published by Weird Tales magazine including the 21 Conan stories that were published in Howard's lifetime. There wre several Conan stores that had been rejected and were published long after Howard died.

Yeah, that was it - Weird Tales.

He also wrote weird westerns and comedy westerns as well. Project Gutenberg has several of his stories as well as Project Gutenberg Australia. For some legal reason, the Aussie site has stories the other doesn't.

Ive read quite a few of his stories . He's one of the two writers that really got me interested in reading.:)

I've only read one. He meets a weak, admiring guy named Yadlo whom he tries to protect. It was decent, but I prefer his satirical counterpart, Gru.

Sm Sterling recently wrote a noe Conan pastiche novel Conan The Blood of the Serpent , It a prequel to Red Nails
