The Burning Girls by C.J. Tudor
This story sets off as what appears to be a Phil Rickman rip-off of the Merrilly Watkins stories. Soon, however, it thankfully goes it’s own route and is a fairly interesting crime thriller.
As in most small village stories there are a lot of secrets, indeed most of the people here (including the main protagonist) have deep dark histories and will almost kill to preserve their secrets.
There are, again as in the Phil Rickman books, a couple of possibly supernatural scenes *.
I can’t say much more without spoilers, I enjoyed it.
*I’ve read Chalk by the same author and that also featured possibly supernatural scenes
