I can highly recommend The Exterminating Angel (1962) by the Spanish-born/naturalized Mexican director Luis Buñuel as a fascinating work of surrealism.

I enjoyed I'm No Longer Here, it's on Netflix. It's about a young man who has to run away from home due to a drug cartel.

There are no doubt better Mexican movies, but that's the first one that popped into my head. The characters are very real, although odd.

Cronos is a good mexican film from Guillermo del Torro. An interesting take on the vampire story.
