For the sake argument, the planet you find yourself is the Planet Caladan. I figure that comparatively speaking , it's the safest place to land in the Dune Universe.:) Your are yourself in this scenario having only the clothing on your back , whatever is in your pockets , knowledge and skill set .But for you, there is no langue barrier . You have an working understanding of the Dune universe , it politics and how it operates and you know events are going transpire . So what would you do and could do you have what it takes to survive there ?:)

I would like to say that, being moderately intelligent, I could do alright. But I get the feeling that everyone in the Dune setting is exceptionally good at what they do, and their abilities way outstrip anything we can manage now, either physically or mentally. So I suppose I would end up winding up the servoks, or carrying Lady Jessica's hat collection around, or something menial like that.

In terms of knowing what was to come, I think I'd probably run off and hide on a pungi rice farm. I don't fare well in the heat, and Arrakis wouldn't be my cup of tea at all. Actually, I got the feeling that, of everyone in the Dune setting, the smugglers had the most fun, probably because they operated outside the social structure of the Farfreluches.

Incidentally, what is the society of Dune called? Is it the Imperium?

My skill sets are rather limited , Im not good with technology, Intellectually im not the best or the brightest , my stamina sucks big time , and I have zero proficiency in combat or with any kind of weapons so , being a soldier would be out the question. I don't know what I would do. One possibility , and knowing what I know about event's I would go to House Atreidies . Getting past Gurney Halleck could pose a problem , but I would be persistent. Once im in the Duke presence I would tell of the posts again him but the Emperor and the Harkonen's and I would warn him Dr Yeuh, that his Suk conditioning has been compromised. I would ask him to have lady Jessica use the voice on me to see im speaking the Truth. Then I would asked them to take me in as a servant to do menial labor which, I think I could manage with no problem.:)

There is one thing I would try avoid disclosing , that Jessica is the daughter of the Baron, that kind of information would probably get me killed. I would suggest to the Duke that might want to arrange a meeting with Emperor and discuss a marriage of Paul to princess Irulan , that might defuse the things withe the Emperor. and high also neutralize the Harkonens.

Being dropped onto Caladan the obvious choice is to join the Atreides military. You could work your way up the ranks providing you worked hard and showed skill. The Atreides reward this sort of thing. Once you got the attention of Thufir or Halleck it would then be possible to get the ear of the Duke.

It would be very difficult to prove to the Duke that Yueh would betray him but it would possible to put a seed of doubt in the mind of Thufir. Working on Thufir an alternate plan could be set up to keep the Duke and a greater portion of the Atreides military alive during the assault by the Harkonnens and Sardaukar.

With the Duke alive you could then stop Jessica from taking the Water of Life and thus making Alia an abomination. You could also help Paul as he becomes the Kwitzach Haderach with the ultimate goal of avoiding the Fremen Jihad. When the Duke, with the aid of Paul, finally overcome the Harkonnens and Emperor, the Duke ascends to the throne and marries Irulan, giving Paul time to come to terms with his power and raise a family with Chani.

In the end, Leto II is born without prescience and the Golden Path never happens. In 10,000 years humanity stagnates and goes extinct.

A happy ending . :D

Navigating the politics of the Empire would very very hazardous.

Im not sure but ins't it called just the Empire?:confused:

The Farfreluches was the class system employed in the Empire. It provided the framework for the aristocracy to operate.

The biggest problem I had with Dune Mentads and Guild pilots notwithstanding, how do you have a cohesive civilization without computers?

That's a misconception. There were computers to do low-level repetitive tasks, data storage, and such, but there were no computers powerful enough to have artificial intelligence, which prohibited after the Butlerian Jihad.

I missed that.
