I couldn't remember the plot itself, but in the end of the story the author tells his inspiration for the novel which is his childhood experience of answering an old broken phone box that rang one day.
I think the story plot itself may involve elements like 'life simulation' because I remember after reading it I was fully convinced human life isn't real and we're all living in a simulation.
Protagonist is a teenage boy and I think the settings are largely in a neighbourhood. Towards the end of the story I think they were having a neighbourhood festival with a stage and such?
Read in around 2000s to 2010s and seems to be a fairly new book I think. Targeted audience may be teens/young adults because I got it at a book fair for schoolkids.
