Fantasy Book - Late 1980s - early 1990s

Hi,

Something like "Child of the River" or "the River God's Son", or "the River God's Daughter". Dark fantasy - an evil witch sacrifices a babe-in-arms in a swamp near the start.

Any help greatly appreciated.

There was The Book Of The River by Ian Watson published around 1984. It’s a very long time since I’ve read it and the plot you describe doesn’t ring a bell.
