Science fiction book about a girl

When I was a kid I read this science fiction book about a girl from the planet Earth (I think) who had travelled with a lot of other humans to another planet. I don’t really remember the plot but I do remember they were making new houses to live in by some kind of foam, she kept talking about that talking about certain topics were taboo and that there were mountains and the book was (I think) fairly old (like from the 80s maybe). The front page had a desert like landscape with the girl standing. I think she had like blonde hair and some kind of green clothing. I would really appreciate if someone could help me find it, because I have been dying to read it again!

Could be one of the Catteni series books by Anne McCaffrey. Freedom's Landing is the first in the series, some covers are similar to what was described.
