Overrated Books

Their was a time he was everywhere here as a book seller, I mainly bought at jumble sales and he was easy to find. That and Nick Carter, the american superspy if anyone remembers him?
 
You're right Baylor. I know several people who love that series.

There are people who gave me rave reviews of The Mist of Avalon by MarionZimmer Bradley I ended up hating the book and not even coming close to finishing it.
 
Just curious, first of what? There were plenty of vampire novels before Dracula. Not Translyvanian Vlad the impaler-types admitedly, but sexy aristocratic vampire lords appeared at least as far back as 1819 with John Polidori's The Vampyre
I hate those type of vampires. Give me some 30 Days of Night grimy bloodsuckers.
 
Naked Lunch. It was written by somebody who was almost always stoned and it shows.
It doesn’t make it cool for being so....just a mess.

About the only positive contribution to society from this book was the name taken by that wonderful jazz rock group Steely Dan (Steely Dan III from Yokohama....a strap-on dildo).
Funny thing about Burroughs; his writing is like a Rorschach blot. Everybody seems to see something different. I always thought it was more of a cautionary tale than a glorifications.

I got about 40 pages into Naked Lunch and then I threw in the towel.
 
Dahlgren by Samuel Delany I don't understand the polarity of this book given how incomprehensible it is.
