Okay, 10 or 15 years ago i ended up in county and found a paperback book sci fi defunct galactic empire type the premise was genetic slavery, in that the slave race was inhibited/controlled in some situations by a particular type of writing or script on a genetic level. The descendents of the
Slave race could be controlled by remnants of this script such as instructions on the wall of a transport hub while it had no effect on members of the ruling class. The story started with a group of slave descendants with a descendant of the ruling race traversing the ruins of the galactic empire and these people trying to cope with these ancient commands. I did not get the opportunity to complete this book it seemed to be part of a series and to be from a publisher outside of the U.S. The copy i had did not have a front cover. Ring any bells?
