From the same world as Book of the Ancestor, The Girl and the Stars is set in the far north, grass and trees are a myth and cruel decisions have to be made.
The tribes meet and regulator exams the children, any considered broken are thrown in the pit, they see it as a kindness, the broken can't survive on the ice.
Down in the pit Yaz discovers a hidden world, the broken children have found away to survive, they have powers.

I know some don't like Mark Lawrence but I do enjoy his writing.

I'm a fan of his work as well. Saw that the Girl and the Moon was released recently and picked up the trilogy last week. Enjoyed the read and how he connected the story with his previous works.
