Looking for a science fiction novel I read in the early 2000's. There is a chance it may have been a series of books but not 100% sure

My memory is a bit vague but bellow are some key scenes/themes:

Themes
  • Space flight
  • Planet colonization
  • Mind swapping into new bodies
  • Cloning

Scene's
  • Humanity has progressed to the point where it can travel through space and colonize other planets
  • Male main character meets mysterious entities that task him with a mission
  • He is given an immortal body (can not remember if it was either artificially body or mysterious power)
  • He fly's a space ship that normally requires a crew by himself
  • The ship is a merchant ship with hidden 'torpedo' launchers
  • The ship is also capable of using its force field as a net to gather space debris and cast it at enemy ships
  • Second part of the story (which makes me think it was a series) is a female main character which is introduced 'years down the line'
  • She comes from a poor background
  • Some how comes into contact with a couple (or just an older woman), who wants to purchase her body in exchange they will give her a new body
  • Between the time she makes the deal and the body transfer she is attacked and her body is damaged
  • After she gets her body she gets involved in a mystery to overthrow a planet
  • At some point she is at a dinner party where an enemy has cloned themselves and hid as the wait staff
  • During the story she interacts with the first main male character and his 'grand-daughter'
  • At some point they visit the planet he works on. For some reason they have a land offset based upon the size of the office they have set aside gardens
Not 100% sure if this is Sci Fi / Young Adult / Short Stories.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I don’t think think is Tuf Voyaging. There is no body swapping, for starters.

Thanks nixie, had a summary level read of Tuf Voyaging and no luck.

In regards to the ship size its not as big as Tu describes, this one was only for a handful of people
