I'm timed it well and finished a book last night ready for this.
 
Finished a couple of days ago. It is more Malazan Book of the Fallen than Kharkanas with the welcome return of Malazan marines and the associated humour and character building. The book deals with repercussions of events of the original series but I think it would be accessible to those who hadn't read it.
