DISCUSSION THREAD - AUGUST 2021 75 Word Writing Challenge

@Starbeast .... The Peculiar Tale of Pyrite Pete, the Pie Throwing Pirate .... Telling a good story can have sweet rewards.

As ever, I'm afraid, I write for myself. I've always been very fond of Ratatoskr.

@Hugh .... The Crow's Daughter ,,,, Legends can explain the role of sacrifices both small and great for the good of others.

@chrispenycate .... The Hero's return .... Even legends and long for the recognition of the next generation.

@M. Robert Gibson .... Kajar and the Tailor .... Some legends are most certainly too good to be true.

I'm in, after as little help from my muse as always, damn her eyes.

Film buffs may recognise the title and be able to complete it, but I'm hoping everyone will recognise the rest of the legend!

(And for those dubious about the use of "canny" I've just spent too much time I won't ever get back in searching East Midlands dialects for something appropriate -- ayup miduck and a' -- but most of what I found is unintelligible to the uninitiated, if not actually unprintable, so I went further afield!)

Well, I'm in. I had an idea while I was in the shower this morning, and then had to wait until this evening to put it down.

Work. Pays the bills, but gets in the way, etc. ;)

Hopefully, it fits the theme.

@therapist .... Why the professor rejected her thesis .... Some legends are patently false.

@Ursa major .... Hell for Leather .... Some legends are not what you might expect.

@The Judge .... When the [Medieval] Legend Becomes [Time Travel] Fact ... .... And so the legend is confirmed.

@Perpetual Man .... Falgrim the Fabler .... Sometimes it's better to be legendary rather than a legend.

@Abernovo .... Memories of Childhood Myth .... Some legends are much greater than the facts.

@Moonbat .... Trojan .... Legends like words can carry a great deal of freight.

@Lawrence Twiddy .... You Are What You Eat .... One legend often gives way to another.

-----

47 stories is a very nice total. Good job guys and gals.

therapist: Sometimes the truth is hard to accept.

Ursa major: Be careful about how you use words.

The Judge: Expectations may influence our behavior.

Perpetual Man: Artists may become their own greatest works.

Abernovo: Science, like a candle in the dark, can dispel fears.

Moonbat: Stories can change and yet remain the same.

Lawrence Twiddy: Inspiration can arrive in strange ways.

Another strong round, and a tough one to syringe a winner from.

Longlist
  • @mosaix – Loss through the eyes of a child is a unique thing.
  • @Wayne Mack – Too true; and we could probably replace Google with any number of other social media companies and news outlets these days.
  • @atsouthorn - Hilarious.
  • @AnRoinnUltra – Spellbindingly bizarre!
  • @johnnyjet – An interesting concept.
  • @Starbeast – A messy, colourful tale.
  • @Ursa major – The most audible groan I’ve uttered all year!
Shortlist
Vote
  • @Bren G – History is indeed written by the victor

Interesting pattern of votes currently. The first 4 all have one then a vast plain of 0's with only two votes in the remaining 43.
A statistically unlikely distribution, possibly reflecting a 'primacy effect'?

Top 5:

@TheEndIsNigh - fine line between legend and criminal

** @mosaix - a legend on many levels (I fix bikes too) **

@Elckerlyc - the best ideas take a while to catch on

@Parson - childhood imagination from yonder years, or maybe it was just yesterday?

@Ursa major - ba da ching! too ridiculous not to mention
